Country is all encompassing it gives us the feeling of a magnet drawing us to it. When we are young we don’t quite understand what this is, we feel safe, the familiarity of ‘home’. We know every bend in the river, the trees and landscape to return home but it isn’t until we are older we understand we are connected to each piece. Small in comparison but significant to its survival.
I have painted the Murrumbidgee river, my memory of following it to fish, to look for artefacts. I can hear the birds, feel the wind on my face, see the movement of the water and smell the eucalyptus leaves and bush-flowers. I carry home in my heart and know now my journey’s path has taken me somewhere new, the importance to remember my land-scape and cherish wherever my footprints strike the earth. I will need this memory in the journey of my art to capture my next story in paint.
